SPHC equivalent grades: ASTM, EN, JIS, GB, DIN
Cross-reference for SPHC across standard systems. Each match is graded so you can see how safe the substitution is. Hot-rolled mild steel sheet and strip for commercial and drawing quality — full SPHC data sheet.
Cross-reference table
| Grade | System | Match | Why / differences |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1011 CS Type B | ASTM / ASME | Near | ASTM A1011 Commercial Steel Type B: hot-rolled sheet with C ≤ 0.10–0.20 and no guaranteed yield. The US equivalent by role; the grade families are organised differently (CS, DS, SS, HSLAS). |
| St 22 | DIN (superseded German) | Near | JIS G3131 SPHC is the Japanese commercial hot-rolled forming grade at the same level: C ≤ 0.15, tensile ≥ 270 MPa, no guaranteed yield. |
| DD11 | EN (European) | Near | EN 10111 DD11: hot-rolled mild steel for cold forming, Rm ≤ 440 MPa, A80 ≥ 24 %, C ≤ 0.12. The direct European counterpart of SPHC; the EN grade caps tensile strength where JIS sets a minimum, so a certificate should be read in both directions. |
| DD12 | EN (European) | Near | EN 10111 DD12 corresponds to SPHD: cleaner chemistry, higher elongation, for drawn parts. |
| DD13 | EN (European) | Near | EN 10111 DD13 corresponds to SPHE: the deep-drawing member of the family. |
| Q195 / Q235 | GB/T (China) | Functional | GB/T 700 carbon structural steels often supplied against SPHC enquiries in East Asian trade. Q195 is close in chemistry but is a structural grade with a declared yield. |
Identical = same composition and mechanical limits within rounding. Near = one limit differs (e.g. carbon max or impact temperature). Functional = interchangeable for most uses after an engineering check.
How the matches are graded
Identical means the chemical composition windows overlap so that material certified to one specification meets the other without deviation, and the mechanical minimums are the same or the other is inside them — mills usually dual-certify. Near means one limit differs (a carbon maximum, an impact temperature, a strength minimum or a delivery condition) and a substitution needs a one-line engineering check. Functional means the grades serve the same purpose but are not the same steel — a designer can often use one for the other, but only after re-checking the design.
SPHC in ASTM / ASME
- A1011 CS Type B — Near ASTM A1011 Commercial Steel Type B: hot-rolled sheet with C ≤ 0.10–0.20 and no guaranteed yield. The US equivalent by role; the grade families are organised differently (CS, DS, SS, HSLAS).
SPHC in DIN (superseded German)
- St 22 — Near JIS G3131 SPHC is the Japanese commercial hot-rolled forming grade at the same level: C ≤ 0.15, tensile ≥ 270 MPa, no guaranteed yield.
SPHC in EN (European)
- DD11 — Near EN 10111 DD11: hot-rolled mild steel for cold forming, Rm ≤ 440 MPa, A80 ≥ 24 %, C ≤ 0.12. The direct European counterpart of SPHC; the EN grade caps tensile strength where JIS sets a minimum, so a certificate should be read in both directions.
- DD12 — Near EN 10111 DD12 corresponds to SPHD: cleaner chemistry, higher elongation, for drawn parts.
- DD13 — Near EN 10111 DD13 corresponds to SPHE: the deep-drawing member of the family.
SPHC in GB/T (China)
- Q195 / Q235 — Functional GB/T 700 carbon structural steels often supplied against SPHC enquiries in East Asian trade. Q195 is close in chemistry but is a structural grade with a declared yield.
Superseded names for SPHC
- SPHC — JIS G3131:1996: the designation is unchanged in the 2018 edition
- SS400 (confused with) — JIS G3101: a structural grade with 245 MPa guaranteed yield — not a substitute for a forming grade
