Steel Standart

About this reference

Steel Standart is a working reference for engineers, buyers, inspectors and students who need to know what a steel grade is, what it guarantees, and what it is called in the other standard systems. It is built from the standards themselves, one grade at a time, and every page says which edition it was checked against.

What is on a grade page

Each grade page holds the normative chemical limits, the mechanical properties as the standard tabulates them (by thickness for structural and pressure steels, by condition for heat-treatable steels), the impact requirement, physical properties, the superseded designations with their standards, a graded equivalence table, product forms and tolerance standards, heat-treatment and fabrication notes, typical applications and the questions people ask. Values are typed from the standard's tables, not scraped; where a value is typical rather than guaranteed it is marked as such.

How equivalence is graded

Identical: the composition windows overlap so that material certified to one specification satisfies the other, and mechanical minimums are the same or inside each other — these are the pairs mills dual-certify. Near: one limit differs (carbon maximum, impact temperature, a strength class, a delivery condition); substitution needs a one-line check. Functional: same job, different steel; only after re-checking the design. The reason is written next to every rating.

What the site does not do

  • It does not reproduce standard texts, tables in facsimile or figures — those are copyrighted by CEN, ASTM, ISO, DIN, JSA and the other bodies; each standard page links to the seller.
  • It does not publish prices; where relative cost is mentioned it is an order-of-magnitude indication for the decision, not a quotation.
  • It does not replace the standard: the current edition and the mill certificate govern any purchase or design.

Sources

Primary: the current editions of EN, EN ISO, ASTM, ASME, SAE, JIS, GB/T, GOST, IS, and the withdrawn DIN and BS standards for legacy names. Secondary, for typical (non-normative) values: ASM Handbook Volumes 1 and 4, mill datasheets of major producers, AWS D1.1 and ASME B31.3 for fabrication rules. Conversions (MPa ↔ ksi, HB ↔ HRC) use ISO 18265 / ASTM E140.

Who operates it

The site is published by Omega Steel Co. (Omega Çelik, Istanbul — offices in Kadıköy and London, warehouse in Dilovası), a steel stockholder that needed this reference for its own quoting and decided to publish it. Editorial content is kept separate from commercial pages; grade pages carry no offers.
