Q355 equivalent grades: ASTM, EN, JIS, GB, DIN
Q355 is high-strength low-alloy structural steel (Chinese national standard) specified in GB/T 1591. Every grade in the database that can stand in for it is listed below, drawn from 4 standard systems, each with the reason it does or does not match exactly. The full Q355 data sheet carries the composition and mechanical tables.

A572 Grade 50, S355JR, s355j0 and 2 more differ by one requirement, which is a line on the order rather than a redesign. Q235 serves the same purpose without being the same steel, so a substitution there needs the design re-checked rather than the certificate. The cross-reference below covers 1 in ASTM / ASME, 3 in EN (European), 1 in GOST (Russia/CIS), 1 in GB/T (China).
Cross-reference table
| Grade | System | Match | Why / differences |
|---|---|---|---|
| A572 Grade 50 | ASTM / ASME | Near | ASTM A572 Grade 50 is 345 MPa yield and 450 MPa minimum tensile — a hair below on both counts, with no impact requirement as standard. |
| S355JR | EN (European) | Near | Q355B is the counterpart: same 355 MPa yield to 16 mm, same 470–630 MPa tensile band, both tested at +20 °C. Q355B is tested to 34 J against 27 J, and allows carbon to 0.24 % against 0.24 % for S355JR in thick product — the closest cross-system match in the structural range. |
| s355j0 | EN (European) | Near | Q355C matches it: 0 °C impact test with phosphorus and sulphur tightened to 0.030 %. |
| S355J2 | EN (European) | Near | Q355D matches it: −20 °C impact test, P ≤ 0.025 % and S ≤ 0.020 %, and a fine-grain aluminium requirement. |
| 09G2S | GOST (Russia/CIS) | Near | The CIS grade of the same tier: 345 MPa yield, 490 MPa tensile floor, tested far colder but reporting KCU on a U-notch rather than KV on a V-notch. |
| Q235 | GB/T (China) | Functional | The grade below in the Chinese system: 235 MPa yield under GB/T 700. Q235 to Q355 is the Chinese equivalent of the S235 to S355 step. |
Identical, near and functional are defined once on the grade index; the reason column below says which limit differs in each case.

Superseded names for Q355
- Q345 — GB/T 1591-2008 (superseded): The direct predecessor. The 2018 revision raised the guaranteed yield by 10 MPa and renamed the grade; a drawing that still says Q345B is working from the old edition, and mills supply Q355B against it.
- 16Mn — GB 1591-1979 (withdrawn): The pre-1988 name, read as 0.16 % carbon with manganese. Still heard in Chinese workshops and seen on old equipment drawings.
- Q345A — GB/T 1591-2008: Quality class A — no impact requirement — was withdrawn when the standard was revised. There is no Q355A.
