1.2510 equivalent grades: ASTM, EN, JIS, GB, DIN
1.2510 is cold-work tool steel, oil-hardening manganese-chromium-tungsten specified in EN ISO 4957. Below, the grades that can replace it — 5 standard systems in all — with the deciding limit named for each one rather than left to be looked up. The full 1.2510 data sheet carries the composition and mechanical tables.

Mills routinely dual-certify 1.2510 as O1, 9CrWMn, 9KhVG and 1 more — the limits sit inside each other in both directions. The near matches are 1.2842; what differs is the tested condition, not the alloy. 1095, 1.2363, 1.2379 serve in the same applications, but the composition differs enough that the engineer signs it off, not the buyer. Counted by system: 2 in AISI / SAE, 1 in GB/T (China), 1 in GOST (Russia/CIS), 1 in JIS (Japan), 3 in EN (European).
Cross-reference table
| Grade | System | Match | Why / differences |
|---|---|---|---|
| O1 | AISI / SAE | Identical | AISI O1 (UNS T31501, ASTM A681): C 0.85–1.00, Mn 1.00–1.40, Cr 0.40–0.70, W 0.40–0.60. The same oil-hardening steel; the ASTM carbon window starts lower, so an O1 bar can be marginally softer at the same temper. |
| 9CrWMn | GB/T (China) | Identical | GB/T 1299 9CrWMn is the direct O1 transcription; 9Mn2V is the cheaper manganese-only version. |
| 9KhVG | GOST (Russia/CIS) | Identical | GOST 5950 9KhVG: C 0.85–0.95, Mn 0.90–1.20, Cr 0.50–0.80, W 0.50–0.80. |
| SKS3 | JIS (Japan) | Identical | JIS G4404 SKS3: C 0.90–1.00, Mn 0.90–1.20, Cr 0.50–1.00, W 0.50–1.00. SKS31 is the higher-tungsten variant. |
| 1.2842 | EN (European) | Near | 90MnCrV8 (O2): the same idea without tungsten, 0.90 % C and 2 % Mn. Slightly lower hardness, cheaper, somewhat more distortion — the commonest substitute when 1.2510 is unavailable. |
| 1095 | AISI / SAE | Functional | Plain 0.95 % carbon steel: the same hardness at the surface but no hardenability — it must be water quenched and does not harden through beyond a few millimetres. |
| 1.2363 | EN (European) | Functional | X100CrMoV5 (A2): air-hardening, far less distortion and better wear resistance at a higher price. The standard upgrade when oil-quench distortion becomes the problem. |
| 1.2379 | EN (European) | Functional | X153CrMoV12 (D2): many times the abrasive wear resistance, air hardening, higher cost. Used where tool life rather than cost or edge sharpness governs. |
Identical, near and functional are defined once on the grade index; the reason column below says which limit differs in each case.
