09G2S equivalent grades: ASTM, EN, JIS, GB, DIN
09G2S is low-alloy structural steel of increased strength (GOST / CIS) specified in GOST 19281. Substitutes are collected here from 3 standard systems; the grading column says whether a certificate covers the swap or an engineer has to. The full 09G2S data sheet carries the composition and mechanical tables.

A572 Grade 50, S355J2, S355JR and 2 more sit one step away, differ in a strength minimum or in the quality class rather than in the metallurgy. Functionally interchangeable, S355MC serves a different route to the same duty — check the design, not the analysis. The table holds 1 in ASTM / ASME, 4 in EN (European), 1 in GB/T (China).
Cross-reference table
| Grade | System | Match | Why / differences |
|---|---|---|---|
| A572 Grade 50 | ASTM / ASME | Near | ASTM A572 Grade 50 is 345 MPa yield and 450 MPa minimum tensile — the same strength class, achieved with vanadium or niobium microalloying rather than manganese and silicon, and with no low-temperature requirement as standard. |
| S355J2 | EN (European) | Near | The usual counterpart: 345 MPa yield against 355 at the first thickness step and a 490 MPa tensile floor against 470. 09G2S is tested colder than S355J2 but reports KCU on a U-notch rather than KV on a V-notch. |
| S355JR | EN (European) | Near | Matches on strength; S355JR is tested only at +20 °C, so 09G2S exceeds it comfortably on toughness. |
| P355NH | EN (European) | Near | GOST 5520 09G2S vessel plate: yield 305–345 MPa, Rm 460–490 MPa. |
| Q355 | GB/T (China) | Near | The CIS grade of the same tier: 345 MPa yield, 490 MPa tensile floor, tested far colder but reporting KCU on a U-notch rather than KV on a V-notch. |
| S355MC | EN (European) | Functional | Similar yield, different route: S355MC is thermomechanically rolled for forming, with much tighter carbon and a bend requirement. Substitute only where the design is about strength rather than about forming. |
Identical, near and functional are defined once on the grade index; the reason column below says which limit differs in each case.

Superseded names for 09G2S
- 09G2S per GOST 19282-73 — GOST 19282-73 (withdrawn): Thick plate was specified separately until the 1989 revision merged 19282 into 19281.
- 09G2 — GOST 19281: The same steel without the silicon addition: lower strength class, still in the standard. 09G2S is the silicon-bearing, higher-strength member of the family.
- 10KhSND / 15KhSND — GOST 19281: The weathering members of the same standard — chromium, silicon, nickel and copper — used where atmospheric corrosion resistance is wanted alongside the strength.
